•        I won’t have to pay alimony if I have been married
for 10 years or less.

•        If my spouse and I earn the same yearly salary,
neither of us has to pay alimony to the other.

•        If I have never worked during my marriage, no
matter how long or short, I should get alimony and not be
required to get a job just because of a divorce.

•        If I’m not the one who wants the divorce, I should
get alimony and/or more of the marital assets.

•        If I was wronged by my spouse by infidelity, I am
entitled to get more money from the divorce as
compensation.

•        If I give up custody of my children, I don’t have to
pay child support.

•        If I have sole custody of my children and remarry,
that means my new spouse can adopt my children.

•        I can leave the state with my children and my
spouse has nothing to say about it.

•        I cannot change the locks on my house even though
my spouse moved out because he/she is still part owner.

•        My pension and other retirement benefits belong
solely to me because I worked for them and they’re mine.  


•        My situation is similar to a friend’s who got
divorced, so I can expect an outcome similar to their’s.

•        My son/daughter is turning 18 and/or graduating
high school, so I don’t have to pay child support anymore.

•        Now that my spouse has moved out, I can sell the
house if I want to.

•        My employer no longer provides medical insurance
for my child and my former spouse refuses to ask his/her
employer about it, so I will just have to hope no one gets
sick or hurt.
